Homemade Circle Skirt Photoshoot

Aloha, it's Kanani!

In the midst of summer, my friends and I have an abundance of time to do fun things. Last week, many of my friends and I collaborated on a new project. Maryellen designed this circle skirt, Isabelle sewed it, Samantha took the photos, and I modeled! It was just a beautiful day, and I love to model; it makes me feel fancy!

Samantha and I headed out to a woodsy section of our local park. I really had a ton of fun posing for this photoshoot. I love to pose at all different places, and in different ways. Samantha enjoys taking photos from different angles, and they turned out pretty good. I hope you all enjoyed this photoshoot because I know I did. Also, the skirt was extremely fun and quite easy.
Thanks for reading,
Kanani

Swimming in Bass Lake

Hiya! It's Isabelle!
Today, my sister Genevieve, Elizabeth, and I went to the lake to go swimming. At least, I wanted to go swimming.
I was sitting outside enjoying the sun and doing some drawing when Genevieve walked up to me shaded by a lacy, lilac parasol. "Elizabeth and I are going to the lake, do you want to come with us, Izzy?" She asked. The weather was ideal for swimming, and I was getting quite hot after baking in the sun for an hour, so I definetly wanted to go down to the lake. Waterfront breezes, wading in the cool tides, and enjoying the sun were in my near future.  I hurried inside to change.

At the lake, I scurried down the path to the water. However, I was surprised to find that I was the only one by the water's edge. Why weren't Genevieve and Elizabeth right behind me? I walked back up the lakeside path and saw my sister and her best friend laying on their unfolded towels. My confusion was obvious. "Isabelle, Liz and I are here to sunbathe, not swim," Genevieve informed me. I wouldn't let their no-fun attitudes ruin my beach day, so I headed back down the path alone.

I sat on a warm boulder near the water, and slowly slid into the cool, calm water.

In the knee deep water, I observed various species of small fish, snails, and aquatic weeds. The water was cool, but it felt refreshing to take a summer afternoon swim. In a few minutes, after I got used to the water temperature, I dived right in.

I spent two hours splashing, jumping, diving, swimming, and exploring in the lake, but quickly got cold and noticed my wrinkled hands. I climbed back onto the boulder, wrapped myself in my towel, and slowly made my way back to where my sister and friend were laying.

While I dried off, the other ladies continued to lay in the sun. I don't understand how they can enjoy just laying and doing nothing for such a long time! Hopefully they applied copious amounts of sunscreen.  Do you prefer swimming or sunbathing? Let us know in the comments below.
Have a Super Sunny Day,
Isabelle

Prairie Photoshoot and A Few Photography Tips

Hi guys,

The sun was shining, so Isabelle and I decided to head out into the prairie for a photoshoot. Isabelle is a really talented photographer, and she requested that I model for her in the prairies near my house. She needed to practice taking pictures with the new camera she got for her birthday in May. Of course I couldn't deny a free photoshoot!
Overcast weather is the best for photography; there is still plenty of light, but no weird shadows.
Different angles can look cool in order to get different effects, but try to stay on the same level as your subject for most photos.
Make sure the background doesn't distract from the main focal point. Something simple and repetitive is always nice.
Make sure your subject is looking at the object they're holding/touching.
When using a camera with interchangeable lenses, manual focus is your friend! The camera doesn't always know what you want to focus on. With manual focus, what's in focus is completely in your control.
When the sun is out, landscapes are nice, but the subject is often dark and shadowed. To fix this, use the flash to fill in all of the darkness and shadows.
Above is a picture taken using the fill flash, and below is the same picture taken without a fill flash.

Backgrounds have a large impact on a picture. Something large, flowy and open like a field produces more of a dreamy, free spirited look, and something close and simple like a brick wall or wood produces a completely opposite look.

I hope you guys enjoyed the pictures and the photography tips! If you take any great photos using these tips, I would love to see them! Email me your photos at itssydneylikeaustralia12@gmail.com . Well, that's all for me today. I just hope Isabelle and I don't get any ticks from hanging out in the prairie for hours... :/
Keep exploring,
Sydney
